On Friday, Stockport County Community Trust hosted one of many regional tournaments being staged at community facilities across the country, with hundreds of young girls representing Premier League, EFL and National League clubs.

Hursthead Junior School won the tournament and will go on to represent the club in the Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament finals in summer 2026.

The Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament is one of the competition elements of the Premier League Primary Stars programme.

Launched in 2017 and available to every primary school in England and Wales, Premier League Primary Stars uses the appeal of football to inspire children aged five-to-11 to be active and develop essential skills.

Premier League Foundation Chief Executive, Alex White, said: “The Premier League Primary Stars National Girls Football Tournament is a fantastic opportunity for young players to experience the joy and excitement of the game.

“These regional events unite girls from all walks of life, giving them the unique privilege of representing their club and creating memories that will last a lifetime as part of the Premier League’s commitment to supporting the wider game.”

Premier League Primary Stars Coordinator, Sam Roberts, said: “Stockport County Community Trust were delighted to host the Regional Qualifying Rounds of the 2026 Premier League Primary Stars National Girls’ Football Tournament.

"Every team performed brilliantly throughout the day, and we are incredibly proud to have engaged with 130 girls and to have partnered with the Premier League Foundation to deliver events that bring girls from across Stockport together. Events like Friday’s tournament help make the game accessible to girls from all backgrounds and reflect our commitment to ensuring that football is a sport for everyone.”
