More Than A Game: How Premier League Kicks is supporting young people in Stockport

5 mins

Throughout March, Stockport County Community Trust is joining the Premier League in showcasing the positive impact of the League’s investment in communities and grassroots football through the ‘More Than A Game’ initiative.

This year’s campaign marks a major milestone, the 20th anniversary of Premier League Kicks, a long‑standing community programme delivered by 93 Premier League, EFL and National League clubs. The initiative provides free weekly football and personal‑development sessions, giving young people aged 10–18 access to high‑quality coaching and safe spaces to play.

In Stockport, Premier League Kicks offers local young people the chance to enjoy structured football sessions led by qualified Trust coaches. The programme uses the power of football to help participants grow in confidence, build vital life skills, and realise their potential.

Nationally, 91% of surveyed participants report learning more about the consequences of crime and anti-social behaviour, helping them make more positive choices and avoid negative influences. The programme continues to play a key role in supporting young people from under‑served communities.

Oliver McCall, Stockport County Community Trust’s Premier League Coordinator, said: “We’re proud to celebrate the impact Premier League Kicks continues to have on young people across Stockport during the More Than A Game campaign. Premier League funding enables us to provide free, high‑quality football sessions that bring young people together, help them build confidence, and support them in making positive choices both on and off the pitch.”

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters, added: “It is thanks to the incredible football we see week in, week out in the Premier League that we are able to invest so widely in all areas of the game. This funding has been a priority for us for many years and, through ‘More Than A Game’, we showcase the significant impact this has had on both people and places.

“Premier League Kicks is our longest‑standing community programme, and it has made a real difference to young people across the country. For 20 years it has helped change lives.”

Next week, Stockport County Community Trust will announce a Premier League Community Captain in recognition of their commitment and contribution to the community.
